Software tip: recording screencasts for free on Windows

For a couple of years, I've been using screen recording software to document things, for example recording setup instructions of a certain web application with IIS. The major application for this is Camtasia from a company called Techsmith, but this is a commercial product.

Sometimes, you'd need a simple and free alternative, but so far, I haven't been able to find one. Today I was browsing around, and ran across NCH Software's product called Debut. Debut is a commercial product like Camtasia, but there's also a free version for non-commercial use.

I had the chance to briefly test this product, and it appears to work well. So if you are looking for a free screen recording (screencast video) utility for Windows, you can download one from NCH's web site.
