Fixing Windows 8 Enterprise activation error downloaded from MSDN

Posted: (EET/GMT+2)

My MSDN subscription allows me to download Windows 8 Enterprise, and after installing the OS onto one test machine, I tried activating the system. However, despite multiple retries, I always got the following error:

Error code: 0x8007251D
Error description: No records found for the given DNS query.

Forums posts such as these led me to think that the Enterprise edition is looking for a KMS host, which I don't have.

In case you have your MSDN product key only, the fix is easy, though. Simply run the following command from the command-line (or the Run dialog box by pressing Win+R):

slui 3

This starts the Windows activation wizard with the possibility to change the product key. Now enter the one you have from MSDN, and click Activate.

Should work this time!
