Installing Windows 8.1 on Intel MinnowBoard embedded PC
Posted: (EET/GMT+2)
I've been lately testing embedded application development, and one of the boards I'm currently working with is an Intel Atom based MinnowBoard. It contains an 1 GHz Atom processor and 1 GB of RAM, with connections for USB, Serial ATA, gigabit Ethernet (RJ45), HDMI and Micro SD cards, among others.
The board itself comes with a Linux distribution, but I'd prefer Windows much better. Installing Windows on the board isn't very different from installing it to, say, a netbook or any traditional PC, but then again, you need to be aware on how to build USB bootable installation media, and connect keyboard, mouse and a display using HDMI.
I noticed that on the MinnowBoard wiki, there's a detailed step-by-step guide on how to install regular Windows 8.1 onto the board using an external SATA hard disk (can be SSD). In case you are interested, you can find the guide here.
Next on my list is to test how Windows 8 Embedded would work on this board.
Happy testing!
