Excel 2016 freezes for a long time (or hangs) when saving OneDrive documents

I've noticed that starting with recent Windows 10 builds, Excel 2016 on my main computer has started to hang or freeze when I save an Excel spreadsheet that is currently in OneDrive. This doesn't happen always, but about two-thirds of the times I save a document. Naturally, this isn't how it should be.

Sometimes, if I wait for a really long time, say, 20 minutes after the save, Excel might become responsive again, but this isn't always the case. This isn't an Internet/network connectivity issue either, but a software issue.

Luckily, I've found a solution after a couple of weeks of trying: you need to disable Office integration in OneDrive. My OneDrive is version 2015 (17.3.6390.0509), and in this version's settings, there's the Office tab. It looks like this tab becomes available if you also have the Office 2016 Upload Center (MSOUC.exe) installed (I have).

Now, in my case, all freezes and hangs disappeared once I changed the setting in OneDrive's settings. Remove the checkbox from the option "Use Office to sync Office files" and click OK. In my case, no more freezes or hangs!

Hope this helps you, too!
