New configuration format for Windows Server 2016 Hyper-V virtual machines

A note about recent developments in Hyper-V on Windows Server operating systems: Hyper-V virtual machine configuration files have a new format: .VMCX. Here, unlike in Office's new XML based document formats, the letter "X" at the end of the Hyper-V configuration file's file extension does not indicate XML based data.
Instead, there are two new binary file formats: .VMCX (configuration) and .VMRS (runtime state). These files are by default stored in the path "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Hyper-V\Virtual Machines".
Hope this helps!
