Visual Studio Code moving to weekly releases with version numbers

Last week, Microsoft made available Visual Studio Code version 1.111, which is the very first stable version to utilize the new weekly release cadence. Previously, new VSC updates came every month, and were named based on the month, such as "January 2026", "February 2026", etc.

It's great to see faster releases, but weekly updates on a software development tool is getting close (in my opinion at least) to a usable limit. Imagine you had daily updates, almost like with GitHub Copilot CLI, which seems to have multiple updates per day (or so it feels).

Yes, modern AI can push updates faster, but it still raises the question: if so frequent updates are needed, who has the time to really steer the development, or make sure quality stays high?
