Anthropic disables access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models

Yesterday evening, Anthrophic released a statement it needed to stop providing access to its most powerful AI models, the just-announced Fable and Mythos 5 models. The statement reads as follows:

The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Anthropic models will not be affected. We received the directive from the government today [June 12, 2026] at 5:21pm (ET).

This is a good reminder that AI models we use for many tasks, including software development, have become very powerful. They can be used for good, but especially if jailbreaked, for bad as well.

My expectation is that the models will be available soon again, and the company promised more information in the next 24 hours.
