Anthropic moves Fable 5 to usage credits

Posted: (EET/GMT+2)

Anthropic's most-capable model (at this writing, at least), the Fable 5, is now available to use through usage credits. For a brief moment after the model was launched and then banned, the model was part of a monthly subscription fee, but with a higher consumption. This is no longer the case, and Fable has only been usable with extra payments after July 20, 2026.

This is what the company says about usage credits:

Usage credits allow individuals subscribed to paid Claude plans (Pro, Max 5x, and Max 20x) to continue using Claude seamlessly after reaching their included usage limits.

In a very similar manner to for example GitHub Copilot, you can set limits on the usage, but also, authorize Anthropic to refund (charge your credit card automatically) if the level drops below a certain amount.

Just for the record, the current pricing for Fable 5 is:

  • Input: $10/one million tokens
  • Output: $50/one million tokens.

The interesting thing is to compare the prices: Opus 5 is half the price of Fable 5, Sonnet 5 is one-fifth of Fable's price, and Haiku 4.5 is one-tenth of Fable's price.
